The Nine Domains Approachsm

Joni Peddie

Joni partners with a variety of South African & multinational organisations as a Team Coach, Executive Coach, Leadership Skills Trainer, “Neutral” Workshop Facilitator (using visual mapping to cross fertilize ideas, strategize, put up the mirror for reflection and/or brainstorm opportunities). In a nutshell: a human behaviorist fascinated with activating the people assets in business (in mutually beneficial ways) in order to catalyze business performance. Her desire to understand “what makes people tick” meant that her Social Science degree was a hybrid of Psychology, Marketing & Economics. Her life too is a wonderful hybrid of family (2 gorgeous daughters: 10 & 12 yrs); business; trail running & yoga!

My late husband, Gareth, was the forerunner in this field for both of us. His curiosity & research led us to the deep, extensive & ground breaking work of Don Riso & Russ Hudson. Having attending the phenomenal four Parts of their Enneagram training in the UK & USA ,we felt privileged when they accepted to teach Part 1 in South Africa in 2005. After Gareth’s untimely death I was given a 2nd lease on life in 2008, when our visionary Monika orchestrated the reconnection with Don, Russ and Barry. Don, then brilliantly brought Joyce (another “gem”) on board and so began the most meaningful and fulfilling teamwork and time in my life: the work of The Nine Domains Group!

The Nine Domains Approach has evolved, deepened and expanded after each of the “pilots” we have run, This has been cemented by the collaboration between the 9D stakeholders… both over our many USA / SA Skype meetings and face-to-face at the place of tranquility, inspiration & download: Don’s Barn in Stone Ridge, New York.

Tapping the wisdom of the Enneagram (beyond typology) and bringing that to Corporate Teams, by measuring their level of functioning in Nine Domains… has meant that we get to see the “whole”, while never losing sight of the “parts”. The Nine Domains Surveys have given us insights that have truly made me sit back & wonder “on what basis” did I give teams guidance in the past? The metrics, coupled with specific interventions for each of the 5 levels measured & across the Nine Domains… means that you can “work where the team is at”. I find this revolutionary in its specificity. Having slipped into a ‘comfort zone’ over the years, this Approach brings a new depth of understanding within teams, in a way that creates ownership within that team for its own health & sustainability.
