Russ Hudson
RUSS HUDSON is one of the principal scholars and innovative thinkers in the Enneagram world today. He is the co-Founder of The Enneagram Institute. He has been co-teaching the Enneagram Professional Training Programs since 1991, and is a Founding Director and former Vice-President of the International Enneagram Association. He is also co-author of The Wisdom Of The Enneagram, Personality Types (Revised Edition), Understanding the Enneagram (Revised Edition), Discovering Your Personality Type (Revised Edition), and The Power Of The Enneagram (audio tape). He also assisted Don Riso in writing Enneagram Transformations. He holds a degree in East Asian Studies from Columbia University in New York, from which he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
I met Don in 1988, after reading his first book, Personality Types. I was greatly impressed with it since I was in the Gurdjieff Work which uses the Enneagram, but not as a personality typology. Don’s incredibly accurate description of the types was astonishing to me, and since I needed some advice about a personal crisis that I was undergoing, I decided to look him up. There was a sense of “instant recognition” when we met, and the feeling that this was certain to be a life-changing event. We became “telephone friends,” although I often visited Don since he was moving into his new Manhattan office and I lived only a few blocks away. After a few years of talking about the Enneagram and spiritual work, Don asked me to join him as his co-author and co-teacher of the workshops and Trainings that he was teaching.
My life has been greatly enriched by Don’s brilliance, generosity, kindness, and deep friendship—as well as by the thousands of wonderful students that we have had the good fortune to teach around the world. Now, with Don’s incredibly creative work on the Nine Domains, I have come into contact again with Joyce Stenstrom, Monika Adelfang, Barry Coltham, and Joni Peddie—and incredibly brilliant and hard working team of business experts in their own right. I am humbled to work with them and look forward to bringing my own gifts to the table, so to speak, as the Nine Domains Approach is used around the world.
